Associate Professor Rachel W. Li is a clinician-scientist and Group Leader of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Laboratory at the Australian National University (ANU), School of Medicine and Psychology. She holds an MD and PhD from Southern Cross University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Hawaii, where she served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology. Her research focuses on the interplay between orthopaedic implants, bone, and the immune system, pioneering orthopaedic research in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). She is known for developing an endoscopic drug delivery device for liver cancer patients and was awarded the National Innovation Award by the Chinese Medical Association. Her work has secured funding from ARC, NHMRC, and CORE grants.
Key research areas include aseptic loosening mechanisms in joint replacements, biomaterials for implants, and inflammation modulation. She leads projects on customized 3D-printed implants and infection-resistant magnesium alloys. Dr. Li’s lab has produced over 59 peer-reviewed publications and 24 research projects, with recent collaborations in infection prevention biomaterials and symmetrical analysis for implant design.
