Rachel Silveri is an Assistant Professor in the School of Art + Art History at the University of Florida, specializing in modern European and North American art with an emphasis on early 20th-century French modernism. Her research explores avant-garde theories, feminist thought, queer theory, and artistic responses to reactionary politics. She holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Affiliated with the Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Department, Center for European Studies, and Center for Arts, Migration + Entrepreneurship, she also served as a 2023 Global Fellow at the University of Florida International Center.
Her current book project, *The Art of Living in Avant-Garde Paris*, examines avant-garde life practices in Dada, Simultanism, and Surrealism. A second project, *'It Was Yesterday, Dada': Women's Histories of the Avant-Garde*, re-centers women’s contributions to avant-garde narratives. She curated *Surrealism at the Harn: A Centennial Celebration* (2023–2024), highlighted in *The New York Times*, and received the 2024 University of Florida Excellence Award for Assistant Professors.
Her peer-reviewed work includes essays on Sonia Delaunay, Surrealism’s publics, and reactionary art histories. She teaches courses on modernism, gender studies in the avant-garde, and global surrealist movements.
