Rachel Samet is a Lecturer in the Music Department at Cal Poly Humboldt. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has served as Director of Choral Activities at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and Bucknell University. Her expertise spans choral conducting, music education, and new music advocacy. She teaches courses such as Fundamentals of Conducting, Advanced Choral Conducting, and Music in the K-8 Classroom. Her holistic teaching methods integrate Dalcròze eurhythmics and body mapping. She has conducted world premieres, including Brian Coughlin’s Requiem, and contributed biographies of Black choral musicians to The Grove Dictionary of American Music.
Rachel has extensive experience with K-12 education and community ensembles. She has led ensembles like University Singers and Madrigal Singers, emphasizing high standards with a focus on joy and humor. Her work includes over thirty stage productions as a musical director. She advocates for diverse musical traditions and innovative pedagogical approaches.
