Rachel McCarthy is a Lecturer in Musicology at the Department of Music, Goldsmiths, University of London. Her work bridges musicology, political critique, and cultural studies, with a focus on 21st-century musical practices.
Research interests:
- Satire and parody as tools for social/political critique
- Gender dynamics in popular and electronic music
- Marxist theory in music studies
- Meta-musicology and cultural activism
Rachel co-founded a study group exploring intersections of music, Marxism, and social difference through anti-racist and feminist lenses. Her current book project investigates anti-capitalism and identity politics in YouTube pop parody.
