Svenja Bromberg is a Lecturer in Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a member of the Centre for Philosophy and Critical Thought. She joined Goldsmiths in 2017 after working at Middlesex University. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Goldsmiths (2016), titled Thinking Emancipation ‘after’ Marx.
Her research focuses on social and political theory, Marxism, and continental philosophy. Key themes include materialism vs. idealism, emancipation, democracy, revolution, and critical analyses of capitalism. She currently explores the 'materiality of politics,' engaging feminist, Marxist, and object-oriented philosophies. She teaches BA (Hons) Politics, Philosophy & Economics and BA (Hons) Sociology & Politics.
Bromberg co-edited The SAGE Handbook of Marxism (2021) and Euro Trash (2016). Her work appears in journals like Historical Materialism and International Critical Thought. She is an Editorial Board member of Historical Materialism.
No scientific awards are listed. She actively supervises doctoral students in social/political theory, philosophy, and critical theory. Her research also addresses affect theory, publishing economies, and critiques of contemporary capitalism.
