Dr. Rachel Lawrence is a Research Fellow in Applied Health Research at University College London (UCL), where she has been employed since December 2023. She works within the NIHR-funded Rapid Service Evaluation Team (RSET), leading qualitative research on health service innovations. Her current projects include evaluating AI applications in chest diagnostics for lung diseases and assessing maternity/neonatal advocacy roles in the NHS.
She holds a BSc in Psychology (University of Winchester, 2016–2019), MSc in Foundations of Clinical Psychology (University of Southampton, 2019–2020), PhD in Psychology (University of Surrey, 2021–2024), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (FHEA) from the University of Surrey.
Her research focuses on:
- Health service delivery innovation and policy analysis
- Applications of AI in clinical diagnostics
- Mixed-methods evaluation frameworks for public health interventions
- Psychosocial aspects of healthcare access and aging
- Qualitative methodologies in health systems research
Her recent publications (2023–2025) demonstrate a strong focus on AI implementation challenges in radiology, social prescribing models for older adults during COVID-19, and critical appraisals of health technology deployment. Thematically, her work bridges clinical psychology, health informatics, and service evaluation.

Teaching activities include co-leading the MSc module Key Issues in Health Service Delivery, Policy and Management at UCL and organizing departmental seminars for Behavioural Science and Health.
She serves on the conference committee for the Qualitative Health Research Network and contributes to NIHR-funded service evaluations through the RSET research group.
