Dr. Rachel Latham is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Social Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Centre within King’s College London’s School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences. She joined the Centre in 2017, focusing on understanding risk and resilience factors in children exposed to adversity such as abuse, neglect, and bullying. Her work bridges psychology, public health, and policy, with a strong emphasis on translating research into practical interventions.
Latham holds a BSc and PhD in Psychology from the University of Sussex, complemented by frontline social work experience in Brighton and Hove Children’s Services. Prior to her current role, she contributed to research at the Early Intervention Foundation and Goldsmiths, University of London.
Her research interests include childhood victimization’s impact on mental health, parenting dynamics, coparenting relationships, and environmental factors like air pollution and neighborhood deprivation. She leads projects such as the Environmental-Risk (E-Risk) Study, examining long-term effects of adversity and developing tools like individualized risk calculators for psychopathology.
Key publications highlight her contributions to understanding protective factors against psychopathology, the role of supportive adults in mitigating trauma, and air pollution’s mental health implications. Her work appears in journals like Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and Development and Psychopathology.
