Rachel Laforest is a Professor and Undergraduate Chair in the Department of Political Studies at Queen’s University. She holds a PhD from Carleton University and MA/BA degrees from Université de Montréal. Her research focuses on Canadian and Quebec politics, social policy, and the interplay between civil society and state institutions, with particular attention to marginalized communities and citizen engagement.
Laforest has authored award-winning works, including Voluntary Sector Organizations and the State, and co-edited volumes on public administration and social policy. She leads SSHRC-funded research on topics such as poverty reduction strategies, mental health service provision in Ontario, and French-language services in minority contexts. Her current projects examine youth homelessness prevention and cross-sectoral collaboration.
