Dr. Rachel Juergensen is an Assistant Professor of Special Education at Delaware State University (DSU), specializing in equitable education for students with disabilities. Her research focuses on inclusive science education and teacher preparation, particularly through projects like the $1.06 million U.S. Department of Education-funded Project DE-SPEC, which supports special education certification for practicing teachers. She holds a B.S. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education (2004), an M.A. in Educational Administration (2008), and a Ph.D. in Special Education (2022), all from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Her work bridges science education and special education, emphasizing instructional methods for students with learning disabilities. She collaborates with the Special Education Research Accelerator (SERA) to study equitable science education strategies. Juergensen also serves as a consultant for inclusive practices and program evaluation, offering expertise in science content adaptation and teacher professional development.
Selected publications include studies on multimodal STEM text sets, virtual instruction scaffolding, and socio-scientific issues in science education. Her grants include the H325M230015 project (2023–2028) and a Learning Disabilities Foundation grant (2021–2022). She actively contributes to educational equity through research, policy analysis, and curriculum development.
