Rachel Irwin is an Associate Professor and Researcher in the Division of Ethnology at the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences, Lund University. Her work focuses on global health policy through ethnographic research, particularly examining the World Health Organization (WHO), Sweden's role in global health, reproductive health, HIV policy, and violence against healthcare workers.
- PhD in Social Anthropology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
Her research includes projects such as Strategic Solidarity: Scandinavian Countries' COVID-19 Vaccine Diplomacy and dīcit: Disinformation, Conspiracy Theories, and Infrastructures of Information. She actively contributes to the Medical Humanities Research Node and leads ethnographic studies on Swedish reproductive health policies and healthcare security in humanitarian crises.
Irwin teaches courses like Health, Power and Culture and Society, Risk and Health, while supervising students in the Master's program in Applied Cultural Analysis. Her collaborations span interdisciplinary initiatives and international networks focused on health governance and ethical research practices.
