Rachel Green is the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. She leads a research group focused on ribosome function and its role in cellular homeostasis. Her work spans bacteria, yeast, and mammalian systems, with a focus on translation mechanisms, mRNA quality control, and stress responses.
Education: B.S. in Chemistry (University of Michigan, 1986), Ph.D. in Biochemistry (Harvard University, 1993 under Jack Szostak), and postdoctoral training with Harry Noller at UC Santa Cruz. Appointed as an HHMI Investigator in 2000.
Research interests include ribosome collisions, integrated stress response (ISR), and MAP kinase pathways. Techniques employed include genetic, genomic, and biochemical methods. Current lab members include graduate students and postdoctoral fellows working on projects such as ribosome rescue mechanisms and translational regulation.
Notable achievements: HHMI Investigator, extensive publications on ribosome biology, and contributions to understanding mRNA quality control pathways.
