Rachel Elizabeth Traxler (she/her) is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, New York University. She holds a master’s in interdisciplinary studies and a bachelor’s in history/anthropology from Texas Tech University, with a minor in American Sign Language. Her research examines how systemic ableism, racism, and linguistic dominance affect students in schools, with a focus on transition planning for disabled youth and barriers to educational success. She has been recognized for her contributions, including the 2023 Department Award for Service and Teaching at NYU Steinhardt.
Rachel’s work bridges special education and disability studies, emphasizing equity and social justice in education. Her publications address topics such as cultural dynamics in special education classrooms, language acquisition in sign language pedagogy, and policy implications for marginalized student populations. Her teaching and advocacy reflect her commitment to inclusive practices and critical pedagogy.
