Rachel Bacon is a visual artist and academic affiliated with the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK). She holds an MA in Drawing from the University of the Arts London and an Advanced Master's in Artistic Research from St. Lucas School of Art, Antwerp. Since 2008, she has served as a Tutor in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program and as an IST (Individual Study Track) tutor in the Drawing Lab since 2019. She was a member of the Design Lectorate Research Group 2018, contributing to projects like 'Undermining Value,' which explores drawing's relationship with ecological crises and mining landscapes.
Her research focuses on the intersection of artistic practice, geology, and environmental justice. Notable projects include 'What Do Landscapes Say?' (2020), exhibited in Rotterdam and Moscow, and a residency at the Drawing Center Diepenheim. Her work has been featured in journals like Tracey (2023) and exhibitions such as 'Troubled Waters' (2022).
Bacon integrates research methodologies into her teaching, emphasizing 'visual archives' to bridge personal creativity and societal issues. She collaborates with international artists and institutions, including the Creative Industries Fund NL and Mondriaan Fund.
