Rachel Ankeny

Professor Rachel Ankeny is a faculty member at the University of Adelaide, holding a position in the School of Humanities within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. She also serves as an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Exeter's College of Social Science and International Studies (Philosophy). Her roles have included Deputy Dean Research for the Faculty of Arts, Associate Dean Research, and Deputy Executive Dean. She has overseen research strategy projects for the Division of Research and Innovation (DRI), focusing on ERA submissions and research publication strategies. She holds a BA in Liberal Arts (Philosophy/Maths) from St John's College, MAs in Philosophy and Bioethics, and a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She also earned a Master of Arts in Gastronomy from the University of Adelaide.

Her research interests span interdisciplinary fields including the history and philosophy of science (with a focus on biomedical sciences and model organisms), bioethics (genetics, stem cell research, and feminist approaches), food ethics and values, and migration history. Key projects include Organisms and Us: How Living Things Help Us to Understand Our World and leadership of the ARC-funded Hostel Stories project. She is also involved in grants such as the NHMRC Stem Cell Therapies Mission and the ARC Training Centre for Future Crops Development.

Her professional activities include co-investigator roles on projects like the Improving Indigenous Research Capabilities initiative and leadership in the Food Values Research Group. She has held administrative roles such as Associate Dean (International) and has coordinated major research submissions for the university.
