Rachael Stretch is a Lecturer at Staffordshire University's Health, Education, Policing and Sciences school. Prior to this role, she held teaching positions at Nottingham Trent University for nearly a decade, focusing on family law and authoring undergraduate textbooks. She holds a PhD (2002) from Nottingham Trent University on comparative analysis of mandatory reporting obligations in English and French criminal law, involving fieldwork in both countries. Her academic qualifications include a PGCHE (2000), Legal Practice Course (1995), and LL.B (Hons) in Law and French from the University of Bristol (1994).
Her expertise spans family law (particularly child-related matters), law and disability, equity and trusts, and methodological approaches in legal research. Current research explores French laws on anonymous birth, rights to identity, and family home ownership through constructive trusts. She emphasizes employability and postgraduate training partnerships with external stakeholders.
Teaching responsibilities include Level 6 modules on Law of Trusts, Family Law Advice Clinic, and Level 7 courses on Private Client Family Law and Wills Administration. Her publications include multiple editions of Questions and Answers Family Law (Routledge) and peer-reviewed articles on religious dress law, proceeds of crime comparisons, and child protection reporting obligations.
