Rachael Parke is an Adjunct Associate Professor (Research) in the Department of Acute & Critical Care at Monash University’s Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. She also holds external academic positions as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland and as a Nurse Senior Research Fellow at Te Toka Tumai (Auckland City Hospital) since 2015, reflecting her active involvement in clinical research and education.
Her research is highly focused on critical care medicine, particularly in areas such as cardiac and thoracic surgery, acute kidney injury, oxygen therapy (especially nasal high-flow), and nutritional interventions in critically ill patients. She contributes significantly to large-scale, multicenter clinical trials, including REMAP-CAP, BALANCE, and EXCEL, which aim to improve outcomes in intensive care settings.
Her recent publications (2020–2025) reflect strong engagement in randomized clinical trials, with a focus on pharmacological interventions (e.g., corticosteroids, vitamin C), respiratory support strategies, and nutritional optimization. These works span disciplines such as infectious diseases, critical care, and public health, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her scientific contributions are associated with the following awards and recognitions:
- Active participation in international clinical trial networks including the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS) Clinical Trials Group and the International ECMO Network (ECMONet).
- Contributions to research aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in health and well-being.
Rachael Parke plays a key role in collaborative, investigator-initiated research, often serving as a co-investigator in major trials. While no direct mention of student advising is made, her leadership in multicenter studies suggests mentorship and team coordination. She is affiliated with critical care research teams at Monash University, University of Auckland, and Te Toka Tumai, contributing to a robust network in acute care research.
