Dr Rachael Hunter is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical and Health Psychology at Swansea University and a Specialist Practitioner Clinical Psychologist with a local NHS health board. She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Plymouth, an MSc in Health Psychology from the University of Bristol, and a BA (Hons) in Psychology from Swansea University. Her dual academic and clinical role combines teaching, research, and clinical practice focused on mental health interventions, chronic physical health conditions, and psychosocial outcomes in patients with conditions like Multiple Sclerosis and Venous Thromboembolism (VTE).

Her research focuses on developing psychological interventions for patients with VTE and exploring mental health impacts of chronic illnesses. Key projects include collaborations with the NHS, pharmacies, and third-sector organizations. She currently teaches modules such as PSY352 (Dimensions of Personality and Sexual Disorders) to final-year and postgraduate students. She has supervised multiple PhD students in areas including psychosocial impacts of health conditions and patient-reported outcome measures.
Her publications span topics like the psychological impact of VTE, mental health during the pandemic, and anger management in chronic skin conditions. She has contributed to international journals such as BMJ Open, Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, and Appetite.
Rachael’s work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, evidenced by her role in the Venous Thromboembolism Research Group at Swansea University. She has also led the MSc Clinical Psychology and Mental Health program (2018-2022) and currently serves as Admissions Tutor for the program.
