Rachael Hunter is a Professor of Health Economics at University College London's Applied Health Research department. She leads the Health Economics Analysis and Research methods Team (HEART), supporting health economics in clinical trials across UCL’s Priment Clinical Trials Unit and Comprehensive CTU. Additionally, she co-directs the Health Economics Policy Lab (HEPL), enhancing collaboration in health economics at UCL. Previously, she held roles in performance management at South London and Maudsley Mental Health Trust and Offender Health at the Department of Health, advising on health economics for government strategies. She holds an MSc in Economic Evaluation in Health Care from City, University of London.
Her research focuses on health economics, clinical trials, dementia care, prison health, and mental health policy. Notable projects include cost-effectiveness analyses of interventions for Parkinson’s disease, tuberculosis screening in prisons, and anticoagulation strategies in stroke patients. She has contributed to policy reviews on prison drug treatment and offender rehabilitation. Her work spans diverse areas such as maternal health, glaucoma treatment, and chronic kidney disease management.
Recent publications emphasize economic evaluations of clinical interventions, including the DREAMS START dementia program, the Physio4FMD trial for functional motor disorders, and the RADAR study on antipsychotic reduction. Her research integrates qualitative and quantitative methods, addressing implementation challenges in healthcare systems. She actively engages in interdisciplinary collaborations, bridging clinical practice, policy, and economic analysis to optimize healthcare resource allocation.
