Dr. Rachael H. Rhodes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Researcher at the British Antarctic Survey. Her research focuses on understanding past climate systems through ice core analysis, methane biogeochemistry, and sea ice reconstructions. She specializes in abrupt climate change mechanisms and employs chemical transport modeling to interpret environmental records.
Current major projects include the Beyond EPICA Oldest Ice initiative to recover Antarctica's oldest continuous ice core, the FETCH4 project studying methane emissions and Greenland ice cores, and REWIND/SIWHA examining Holocene sea ice and westerly wind dynamics. She also leads WACSWAIN, investigating West Antarctic Ice Sheet stability using Nd-Sr isotopes for dust provenance analysis.
Dr. Rhodes is based at the Downing Site (Room S211) and actively supervises PhD students. Her work bridges field data collection, laboratory analysis, and computational modeling to address critical questions in Earth's climate history.
