Jack Humby is a Researcher at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), affiliated with the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. He specializes in developing advanced analytical methods for ice core research to reconstruct past climates and improve future climate predictions. As a DLA Supervisor for the Cambridge NERC Doctoral Landscape Awards, he supports doctoral training in environmental sciences.
Research Focus: Dr. Humby's work centers on:
- Developing continuous flow analysis (CFA) and high-resolution discrete sampling techniques for ice cores
- Analyzing stable water isotopes, gases, and chemical impurities (terrestrial/marine/volcanic species)
- Collaborating with climate modelers to interpret paleoclimate data and constrain future climate projections

- SIWHA ice core project: Holocene-era Southern Ocean CO2 exchange studies
- Beyond EPICA Oldest Ice core: Investigating Mid-Pleistocene Transition climate cycles (1.5-million-year-old ice)
