Dr. Rachael Gabriel is Professor of Literacy Education at the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education, where she also directs the Reading/Language Arts Center. She holds a PhD in Education (Literacy Studies) from the University of Tennessee, MAT in Secondary English from American University, and BA in English & Psychology from the University of Rochester.
Her research examines literacy instruction, educational leadership, intervention strategies, and policies related to teacher development and evaluation. Current projects investigate how educators build collective capacity, state literacy policies, and discipline-specific literacy instruction. Dr. Gabriel is Editor-in-Chief of The Reading Teacher and author of seven books including 'Doing Disciplinary Literacy' and 'How Education Policy Shapes Literacy Instruction'.
Her scholarly articles address diverse topics including dyslexia education, arts education policy, and literacy interventions for deaf students. Recent publications examine asset-based pedagogy and the integration of disciplinary literacy practices across content areas.
