Rabindra Nepal is a Professor of Economics at the School of Business within the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Wollongong. His research focuses on energy, environment, and resource economics, with an emphasis on policy analysis and climate finance. He is a founding member of the UOW Energy Futures Network and has collaborated with international organizations such as the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations Environment Programme. His work has been cited in media and industry reports globally.
Previously, he held academic positions at institutions including the University of Queensland, Charles Darwin University, and Massey University. His research interests include energy transitions, environmental policy, and the economic impacts of climate change. He has secured grants from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and led projects on topics like energy justice and green finance.
Nepal’s advisory roles extend to national and international bodies such as Australia’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water. He co-edits academic journals and serves on editorial boards, contributing to peer review in economics and finance. His teaching spans diverse economics subjects across Oceania.
His recent research explores geopolitical risks in energy value chains, climate finance’s role in mitigating heatwave impacts, and AI-driven energy resilience. These studies underscore his commitment to bridging theoretical and applied economics for policy relevance.
