R. Stephen Lloyd

R. Stephen Lloyd, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Molecular & Medical Genetics and the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He has held academic positions at Vanderbilt University, the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), and OHSU, advancing to Full Professor at Vanderbilt and directing multiple environmental health centers.

• Education: BS in Biology (1975, Florida State University), PhD in Molecular Biology (1979, University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Houston)
• Research Focus: Cellular DNA damage response pathways, particularly DNA repair and replication mechanisms modulated by environmental toxicants. His work spans aflatoxin-induced carcinogenesis, oxidative DNA damage in metabolic syndrome, UVB-induced skin cancer prevention, and small molecule modulation of DNA repair enzymes.

Publication Trends (2025-2018): Recent studies investigate aflatoxin B1 and NEIL1/OGG1 glycosylases, emphasizing their roles in hepatocellular carcinoma, metabolic disorders, and UVB-induced DNA repair. Emerging work explores small molecule inhibitors for DNA repair enzymes as therapeutic targets in cancer treatment.
