Amanda K. McCullough is a Research Professor at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), focusing on biochemical mechanisms of DNA repair systems and their roles in environmental stress responses. Her work bridges genome instability, cancer biology, and metabolic diseases.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology, University of Vermont (1992)
- Postdoctoral Training: Oregon Health & Science University, University of Texas Medical Branch
Her research investigates DNA damage response pathways in carcinogenesis, particularly aflatoxin- and UV-induced mutations, NEIL1 glycosylase functions, and small molecule inhibitors for cancer therapy. Recent studies explore links between DNA repair defects and colorectal cancers/metabolic disorders, as well as protein-DNA interactions in neurodegenerative diseases.
Key trends in her 15 most recent articles (2025–2019) include aflatoxin mutagenesis, NEIL1 polymorphisms across populations, abasic site targeting by chemotherapeutic agents, and DNA repair modulation for cancer treatment. Awards include the 2017 OHSU Excellence in Teaching.
