R. Richard Geddes is a Professor and Founding Director of the Cornell Program in Infrastructure Policy (CPIP) at Cornell University’s Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy. His research focuses on infrastructure funding, financing, and resilience, particularly leveraging new technologies. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and undergraduate degree from Towson State University.
Prof. Geddes has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Nature and the American Economic Review, examining topics such as road pricing, PPPs, and infrastructure resilience. He advises Fortune 500 companies and testifies before U.S. Congress. His teaching awards include three Merrill Presidential Scholars Awards and a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
- Research Interests: Infrastructure financing mechanisms, public-private partnerships, climate resilience, and transportation policy.
- Advisory Roles: Former Edward Teller National Fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution, Senior Economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisors, and Commissioner on the National Surface Transportation Policy & Revenue Study Commission.
- CPIP Leadership: Directs the interdisciplinary CPIP program addressing infrastructure policy challenges globally.
His recent work emphasizes climate adaptation for urban infrastructure, vulnerability analysis of critical networks, and innovative funding models for public projects.
