R. Michael Buehrer

R. Michael Buehrer is a Professor in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. He joined the faculty in 2001 and serves as Director of Wireless@VT, a comprehensive research group focused on wireless communications and radar systems. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. (1996), M.S. (1993), and B.S. (1991) from Virginia Tech and the University of Toledo, respectively.

Research interests span cognitive radar, MIMO systems, interference mitigation, and 5G/6G networks. His work emphasizes localization techniques, satellite communication integration, and reconfigurable antenna design. Notable achievements include the Vanu Bose Award (2021) and contributions to wideband signal processing recognized by the IEEE.

Recent publications focus on LEO satellite-based localization, reconfigurable reflectarrays, and cognitive radar networks. He has advised numerous graduate students in wireless communications and authored/co-authored over 350 journal/conference papers and 18 patents.
