معرفی
R Sean Sanders is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Engineering and serves as Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Faculty of Engineering's Deans Office. His career bridges industry and academia with a focus on environmentally sustainable resource extraction technologies.
Education:
- BSc in Chemical Engineering (1990) from the University of Saskatchewan
- PhD from the University of Alberta
Research Interests: Dr. Sanders' work centers on fluid dynamics and multiphase transport systems critical to oil sands operations. His research develops energy-efficient extraction processes, novel pipeline transport measurement techniques, and advanced CFD simulation tools for non-Newtonian mixtures. Key contributions include commercializing Syncrude's Low Energy Extraction process and pioneering erosion-corrosion mitigation strategies in particle-laden flows.
Scientific Awards:
- Faculty of Engineering Undergraduate Teaching Award (2006)
- Provost’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching
- Alberta Science and Technology (ASTech) Award for Innovation in Oil Sands Research (2012)
Grants and Leadership: Sanders directs the multimillion-dollar NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Pipeline Transport Processes (established 2008), a major collaboration between the University of Alberta, industry partners, and government agencies. This program drives innovation in heavy oil production through water and energy reduction initiatives while advancing fundamental multiphase flow science.
Labs and Teams: His research group develops next-generation multiphase flow simulation tools and in situ measurement techniques for industrial applications, maintaining strong ties with oil sands producers through the NSERC Chair program and ongoing pre-competitive exploratory studies.
