Quincy D. Newell is the Walcott-Bartlett Professor of Humanistic Studies and Chair of Religious Studies at Hamilton College. Her research examines racial, gender, and religious identity formation in the 19th-century American West.
Primary research areas include Native American engagement with Catholicism during Spanish colonization, African American and Native American Mormons, and religious diversity in frontier societies. Newell teaches courses on American religions, Mormonism, religion in the American West, and theoretical approaches to religion.
