Qiaobing Xu is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical and Biological Engineering at Tufts University, with a joint appointment as Assistant Professor of Medicine. His research focuses on biomaterials, drug delivery systems, and nanotechnology applications in tissue engineering and gene editing. Xu holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University (2007), M.S. and B.S. from Jilin University (2002 and 1999).
His research interests span lipid nanoparticle (LNP) design for mRNA and CRISPR-based therapies, nanomedicine for cancer and cardiovascular disease, and biomimetic tissue regeneration. Key projects include developing LNPs for liver- and extrahepatic organ-specific delivery, base editing of genes like Angptl3, and bioskived extracellular matrix scaffolds.
Xu’s work bridges material science and biomedical applications, with over 60 peer-reviewed articles and patents. His lab explores protein delivery via nanocomplexes, immunomodulatory therapies, and targeted drug delivery systems. He is a member of the Tufts Neuroscience and Genetics Programs.
