Jue Hu

Dr. Jue Hu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nanoscience and Biomedical Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (South Dakota Mines), where she has been appointed since August 2024. She leads the Biomimetic Nanomaterials Lab, focusing on regenerative medicine strategies using biomaterials and stem cell technologies.

Dr. Hu's research integrates biomimetic nanomaterials, tissue engineering, and stem cell techniques to modulate cell-matrix interactions for tissue regeneration. Her lab designs nanofibrous/porous scaffolds, hydrogels, and drug/gene delivery systems to enhance stem cell differentiation and control inflammation. Key areas include extracellular vesicles, bone/dental regeneration, and anti-aging biomaterials, with techniques like thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) for scaffold fabrication.

Her recent work (2016-2025) emphasizes nanoparticle-mediated gene/drug delivery for bone and dental regeneration, utilizing calcium carbonate, polydopamine, and core-shell nanofibers. Themes include inflammation modulation, stem cell differentiation, and scaffold design for craniofacial, alveolar, and nerve tissues, often targeting aging-related degeneration.

Lab Initiatives

The Biomimetic Nanomaterials Lab develops 3D scaffolds and microparticles for regenerative applications.
