Qi Shi is a Professor in the School of Education at Loyola University Maryland, specializing in counselor education with a focus on underrepresented student populations. She holds a Ph.D. from The George Washington University, an M.S. from Drake University, and a B.A. from Beijing International Studies University. Her research emphasizes the role of school counselors in supporting immigrant students, English Language Learners (ELLs), and STEM participation among marginalized groups. Dr. Shi has secured over $200,000 in grants from organizations like the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Spencer Foundation, focusing on topics such as ELLs' resistance behaviors, STEM persistence, and community-based interventions.
Her research interests include expanding STEM opportunities for immigrant youth, international school counseling policies, and developing experiential learning programs for future counselors. Notable awards include the Faculty Award for Excellence in Engaged Scholarship (2021) and the Hoen Award (2017). She currently serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of School-Based Counseling Policy and Evaluation and leads the Baltimore Education Research Consortium (BERC).
Dr. Shi’s work bridges academic research and practical application through community partnerships, such as collaborations with agencies serving immigrant youth in Baltimore. Her publications span topics like group counseling efficacy, school counselor competency assessments, and policy research in school-based interventions.
