Pål Augestad

Pål Augestad serves as Associate Professor of Sports Sociology at Telemark University College's Department of Sports and Outdoor Life Sciences in Bø, Norway. His research critically examines intersections of body, space, and power within sporting contexts.

He earned his dr.polit. doctoral degree from the University of Oslo in 2003 with the dissertation Skolering av kroppen: Om kunnskap og makt i kroppsøvingsfaget (Schooling the Body: On Knowledge and Power in Physical Education).

Augestad currently leads two major research initiatives: (a) sociological analysis of Norway's Olympiatoppen elite sports program, and (b) deconstruction of dominant ideological frameworks surrounding the 1952 Oslo Olympics.
