Priya Atwal is a Community History Fellow at the University of Oxford's Faculty of History, holding a part-time position. She specializes in imperial politics, monarchies, and public history initiatives bridging university-community collaborations. Her work emphasizes inclusive partnerships to enhance shared historical understanding.
Education: Undergraduate and doctoral studies at Oriel College and Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. Teaching experience includes roles at Oxford and King’s College London.
Research focuses on royal and imperial dynamics in 19th-century Britain and South Asia, particularly gender politics in monarchy and transnational elite networks. Current projects include a book on Maharajah Duleep Singh and community-based studies like the Indian Army’s role in WWI. She has contributed to BBC programs, museum exhibitions (Kensington Palace), and interfaith educational initiatives.
Grants & Collaborations: Led the AHRC-funded 'Indian Army and the First World War' project with Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum, involving community volunteers in archival research and public exhibitions. Coordinated interfaith outreach with Sikh/Punjabi groups and local museums.
