Pritish Behuria

Pritish Behuria is a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor at the University of Manchester's Global Development Institute (GDI), where he also serves as Research Group Convenor for the State-Society Relations Group and Pathway Lead for the MSc International Development program. He holds a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship (2024–2025) and is an Affiliate at the Sustainable Consumption Institute. His academic journey includes a PhD in Development Studies from SOAS (2015) and prior teaching roles at LSE and SOAS. Behuria’s research focuses on political economy challenges in late development, African state-business relations, climate change mitigation, and industrial policy in Asia and Africa. He has consulted for institutions like the World Bank and UNDP, and his work addresses global inequities in energy transitions and economic autonomy. Awards include SEED Outstanding Staff Awards for Teaching and Academic Advising (2020/21).

He has organized conferences on structural transformation and late development, and serves as Reviews Editor for the Journal of Development Studies. External roles include examiner positions at Leeds, Edinburgh, and SOAS. His interdisciplinary approach bridges political settlements analysis, postcolonial theory, and global economic governance.
