Priscila Carvalho

Priscila Carvalho is a Lecturer in Environmental Law and Sustainability at the UCL Energy Institute, part of the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) at University College London. She is also a core member of the UCL Islands and Coastal Research Laboratory (ICR) and serves as the Inclusion Lead for BSEER, where she leads initiatives on decolonising the curriculum and advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Her educational background includes an LLM in Law and a PhD in Environmental Law, Resources and Sustainability, both from University College London. Her legal and professional experience began during her undergraduate studies in Brazil in 2004, where she practiced in regulated sectors including energy, telecommunications, mining, and transport.

Priscila's research focuses on the intersection of law, science, and sustainability, particularly in energy and environmental governance. She employs interdisciplinary methods such as legal analysis, qualitative social research, stakeholder engagement, and policy delphi methods. Her work addresses critical issues like equitable resilience, low-carbon energy transitions, and corporate sustainability practices in Indonesia and the Philippines.

She has contributed to key research projects including the 'Energy Open Piazza' Project, analyzing regulatory and market barriers in the UK and Canada, and the RE-Energize DR3 Project, where she conducted multi-hazard risk analysis and studied governance frameworks to inform a toolbox for equitable resilience. Her research is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Climate Action (SDG 13) and Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6).

Priscila successfully secured funding for a research project on Pathways to Decolonisation, which examines potential injustices in the MSc curriculum at BSEER. This work reflects her commitment to justice, equity, and inclusive academic practices.

She is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and contributes to interdisciplinary scholarship that bridges legal frameworks with environmental and social challenges.
