Prasanna Krishnamurthy

Dr. Prasanna Krishnamurthy is a Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a joint department between the School of Medicine and School of Engineering. He directs a research program on cardiovascular diseases, cardiac regeneration, and diabetes, funded by NIH and the American Heart Association.

Recent discoveries include the role of microRNA-377 in anticancer drug-induced cardiotoxicity (2021) and nano-vesicles in heart disease therapy. His lab utilizes molecular, cellular, and in vivo techniques to study cardiac repair mechanisms.

Notable recognitions include American Heart Association fellowships and mentorship awards for undergraduate researchers. Research focuses on cardiac endothelial dysfunction, diabetic cardiomyopathy, and novel therapeutic strategies.
