Dr. Prabhodh Abbineni is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine. His research investigates molecular regulation of secretory pathways in innate immune cells and their impact on inflammation.
Abbineni's laboratory focuses on unconventional cytoplasmic protein secretion (UCPS) mechanisms that release pro-inflammatory cytokines. His multidisciplinary approach combines live-cell imaging (TIRF microscopy), high-throughput proteomics, CRISPR-Cas9 screening, and computational analysis to identify novel regulators of inflammation. Current projects examine how pathogen detection activates specific secretory routes and develops broad anti-inflammatory strategies.
Recent publications characterize cargo receptors (LMAN1, SURF4), lipid-mediated fusion pore regulation, and non-canonical functions of proteins like alpha-Globin in vasculature. His work has implications for treating infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders, and conditions involving cytokine storms.
The lab employs advanced techniques including genome-wide CRISPR screens, secretome analysis, and quantitative imaging to map secretory pathways activated by damage-associated molecular patterns.
