Prabhakar Rajan

Professor Prabhakar Rajan is Professor of Urology and Robotic Surgery and Group Leader at Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London, with membership in University College London's Urology Clinical Academic Board and National Cancer Research Institute groups for Germ Cell Tumours and Advanced Prostate Cancer.

His laboratory research investigates alternative pre-mRNA splicing in prostate cancer biology and liquid biopsy-derived molecular biomarkers, while clinical work focuses on chemo-preventative strategies for low-risk prostate cancer progression and surgical alternatives to chemotherapy for metastatic testicular cancer. Research spans cancer cell biology, genetics, epidemiology, and robotic surgery within urological oncology.

Recent publications (2017-2022) emphasize biomarker discovery in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), including TP53/androgen receptor dynamics, liquid biopsy applications, alternative splicing mechanisms, and comorbidity impacts. His work integrates molecular biology, genomics, and clinical oncology to advance personalized treatment paradigms.

As Principal Investigator, he secured £898,357 in major grants from NIHR/Health Education England, Prostate Cancer UK, Barts Charity, and MRC for projects on biomarker discovery, PTEN-driven splicing in prostate cancer, testicular cancer therapy de-escalation, and neoantigen identification. He serves as Deputy Programme Director and Module Lead for Barts Cancer Institute's MSc in Laparoscopic Surgery & Surgical Skills.

He leads the Urology and Robotic Surgery research group at Barts Cancer Institute, driving translational research in prostate/testicular cancer biomarkers and therapeutic innovations.
