Poulomi Saha is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of California, Berkeley, and Co-Director of the Program in Critical Theory. Their work bridges American studies, psychoanalytic critique, feminist/queer theory, and postcolonial studies. Current research focuses on cult obsessions, surveillance, and Eastern spirituality's role in American identity. Affiliated with Gender & Women’s Studies, Race & Gender, LGBTQ Citizenship Cluster, and others.
Education: BA in International Relations/English from Mount Holyoke College; PhD in English from University of Pennsylvania. Awards include the Harry Levin Prize (2020) and Helen Tartar Subvention Prize (2017). Recent publications explore cult dynamics, reproductive politics, and postcolonial legacies. Teaching includes critical theory and cultural studies courses.
Research highlights include An Empire of Touch (2019) examining colonial labor in Bengal, and a forthcoming book on cult fascination. Their work interrogates how marginalized groups’ narratives are constructed and resisted across historical and geopolitical contexts.
