Dr. Poonam Singh Nigam is a Senior Lecturer in Biotechnology at the School of Biomedical Sciences, Ulster University. She holds a D.Sc. (2020) and PhD (1985) in Industrial Microbiology, with extensive postdoctoral research (1985–2019). Her expertise spans microbial biotechnology, fermentation technology, and industrial microbiology, with a focus on environmental, food, and pharmaceutical applications. She has supervised numerous PhD students and secured £1.065 million in research funding from prestigious bodies like the Royal Society and EU programs. Poonam is affiliated with global scientific societies, including the Royal Society of Biology and Academy of Microbiological Sciences.
