Poonam Puri is a Full Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, appointed in 1997 with leadership roles including Associate Dean and Associate Dean for Research, Graduate Studies, and Institutional Relations. Her expertise centers on corporate governance, securities regulation, and multinational corporate accountability.
She earned her LL.B. from the University of Toronto as silver medalist and LL.M. from Harvard Law School. Her research bridges academic rigor with policy impact through SSHRC-funded projects on capital markets enforcement, auditor liability, and Equator Principles for environmental sustainability.
Her seminal 2016 book Back from the Brink (co-authored with Halpern, Cakebread, and Nichols) analyzes the global financial crisis through a Canadian lens, influencing regulatory frameworks. Current work includes leading FAIR Canada's Law Foundation of Ontario-funded initiative to establish Canada's first investor protection clinic.
