Dr. Poonam Khanna is an Associate Professor of Management at The University of Texas at San Antonio's Alvarez College of Business. She joined UTSA in 2014 after previous roles at Arizona State University and the University of Texas at Arlington. Her research focuses on corporate governance, CEO networks, board effectiveness, venture capital, and strategic alliances. Dr. Khanna holds a Ph.D. in Management (Strategic Management) from the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business, an MBA from the Institute of Management Technology, and a B.Com. from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi.
Her research explores how board monitoring impacts CEO learning, the negative effects of repeated business partnerships, and the influence of social networks on organizational performance. Notable contributions include studies in Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, and Strategic Management Journal. Prior to academia, she spent a decade in management consulting in India, advising multinational corporations, non-profits, and government agencies.
Her work bridges strategic management theory with real-world organizational challenges, emphasizing the interplay between governance structures, executive decision-making, and firm performance.
