Pongiglione Francesca

Francesca Pongiglione is an Associate Professor in Moral Philosophy at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. She holds a PhD in Ethics from the University of Bologna (2009), with visiting scholar experiences at Boston University and the University of Glasgow. Her research focuses on environmental ethics, climate justice, epistemology, and human rights, with particular attention to collective responsibility in global challenges like climate change and migration. She coordinates the 'Europa anni ‘20' initiative and was awarded the University4EU Prize (2022) for her work.

Education: PhD in Ethics (Univ. Bologna, 2009); Postdoctoral fellowships at University of Bologna, LSE, and Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei. She has collaborated with institutions including CeSEP, CRESA, and IRCECP. Her teaching spans Anthropology, Human Rights, Social Philosophy, and Ethics and Ecosystems at multiple universities.

Research interests include the intersection of ethics and epistemology, with recent projects addressing climate change disinformation, pandemic ethics, and the moral status of non-human entities. She contributes to applied ethics through initiatives like the 'CoRC' project on pandemic governance and the PRIN 2017 'New Challenges for Applied Ethics.'

Her publications explore climate justice, epistemic obligations, and the ethics of scientific communication. Notable articles include works on vaccine refusal, culpable ignorance in climate denial, and the moral dimensions of migration. She serves as a referee for journals such as Environmental Theory and Moral Practice and Climatic Change.

Grants include coordination of a MIUR-funded FIRB project on knowledge structures and participation in EU's DYNAMIX initiative. She has led educational experiments integrating climate change science and social theory, emphasizing causal knowledge's role in behavioral change.

Francesca is deputy director of IRCECP and collaborates with interdisciplinary centers like CeSEP (Ethics and Politics) and CRESA (Experimental Epistemology). Her work bridges theoretical philosophy with practical policy analysis, addressing urgent global issues through an ethical lens.
