Dr Polly Stoker is a Lecturer in Classical History and Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) in Classical Studies at the University of Winchester. She teaches Greek and Roman literature, culture, and its legacy, with a focus on women's creative responses to classical works in modern media. Her PhD from the University of Birmingham (2019) examined classical reception in contemporary women's writing. Previously a Teaching Fellow at Birmingham, she joined Winchester in 2021. Her research explores classical antiquity's role in new media through intersections of cultural studies, gender studies, and media studies.
Research interests include classical reception in digital and contemporary contexts, analyzing how classical themes reflect current societal issues. She has published in peer-reviewed volumes such as Homer’s Daughters: Women’s Responses to Homer, 1914–2014 (Oxford UP, 2019). Her teaching spans epic poetry, tragedy, and classical legacy studies.
