Dr Poh-Yi Gan is a Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Targeted Nanomedicines Group at the Centre for Inflammatory Diseases, Monash University. She completed her PhD in 2014 at Monash University under Prof Stephen Holdsworth, studying CD4+ T cell subsets in autoimmune kidney disease. Her research focuses on developing novel biological therapies and antigen-specific tolerance approaches for autoimmune kidney diseases. She is funded by NHMRC, the Department of Health Medical Research Future Fund, the Heart Foundation, and the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health.
Research Projects:
- Leading projects on mast cell stabilization for cardiac injury, kidney-targeted nanoparticles for diabetic kidney disease, and amniotic stem cell therapies for vasculitis.
- Current grants include support from Diabetes Australia and the National Heart Foundation of Australia.
Research Interests: Autoimmunity, immunotherapy, kidney disease mechanisms, vasculitis, and biologicals targeting cellular mediators in autoimmune diseases. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Awards:
- Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology Best Basic Science Award (Winner, 2014)
- Young Investigator Award (2011)
- Multiple recognitions as finalist in Best Basic Science categories (2013, 2015, 2017)
Grants & Collaborations: Hosted visiting researchers (e.g., Kei Nagai, Takeshi Fujita) and collaborates internationally. Active in translational research bridging immunology and clinical nephrology.
Labs/Teams: Heads the Targeted Nanomedicines Group, focusing on nanoparticle-based therapies and antigen-specific tolerance strategies.
