Pirmohamed Munir

Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed holds multiple senior academic and clinical roles at the University of Liverpool and the NHS. As the David Weatherall Chair of Medicine and NHS Chair of Pharmacogenetics, he leads the Centre for Drug Safety Sciences and the Wolfson Centre for Personalised Medicine. He is also a Consultant Physician at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and serves as Commissioner on Human Medicines and Chair of MHRA Pharmacovigilance Expert Advisory Group.

His education includes an MB ChB (Hons) from the University of Liverpool (1985), a PhD (1993), and MRCP (1988). He has been honored with numerous awards, including a knighthood for services to medicine in 2015 and the Andrew Duncan Medal (2016).

Research interests focus on drug safety, pharmacogenomics, and precision medicine, with contributions to clinical pharmacology and personalized healthcare. His work has influenced drug labeling changes and safety protocols through advisory roles. Professional duties include leadership in the British Pharmacological Society and NHS strategic initiatives.
