Pip Matthews

Professor Pip Matthews holds dual roles as Professor in Accounting and Deputy Executive Dean (Education) at Durham University's Business School. She earned a BA in Law from Durham University (1982–1985) and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (FCA) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) with Coopers and Lybrand, later working at EY as a tax specialist. Her career includes leadership roles such as Academic Director of Accounting Programmes at BPP University (2012–2016) and advisory positions with professional bodies like ICAEW, ACCA, CTA, ATT, and CIMA. She is currently an examiner for ICAEW's Business Planning Taxation Paper.

Her research focuses on taxation's impact on low-income earners, gender disparities in taxation, and the OECD's Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) project. She has designed award-winning higher education qualifications in collaboration with Big 4 firms, banks, and law firms.

Awards: Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2017+).

She previously advised the ACCA on curriculum and assessment design and contributed to professional taxation frameworks. Her work bridges academic and professional accounting education, emphasizing innovation in learning and teaching management.
