Dr hab. Piotr Rudzki is a theatre scholar and researcher associated with the University of Wrocław's Faculty of Philology. He has been a central figure in the Polish theatre scene since the 1990s, serving as the Literary Director of the Polish Theatre in Wrocław (2006–2016) and co-founding the underground offshoot Teatr Polski - w podziemiu in 2016. His work bridges academic research with artistic practice, focusing on performing arts theory, cultural diplomacy, and theatre history.
Education: Graduated from the University of Wrocław, earned habilitation (dr hab.) in theatre studies. His career includes a five-year stint teaching at the University of Delhi (India), where he co-authored the first Polish-Hindi textbook. He advised the Polish Ambassador to India on cultural initiatives, organizing the 2000 'Polish Autumn in India' festival.
Research interests span theatre history, engaged theatre practices, and intercultural performance. Notable contributions include editing the quarterly Notatnik Teatralny (1994–2017) and publishing over 100 scholarly works, including monographs like Nie tylko o teatrze (2019) and co-editing Engaged Theatre in Poland and the World (2021).
He leads the Teatr Polski - w podziemiu collective, prioritizing community-driven, experimental performances. Their projects include Silent Theatre VR experiences and site-specific productions. Recognitions include awards for cultural activism and artistic innovation.
