Piotr Przytycki is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McGill University. He holds dual Polish-Canadian nationality and has held academic positions at institutions including the Polish Academy of Sciences and multiple visiting roles at universities worldwide. His research focuses on geometric group theory, low-dimensional topology, and nonpositively curved geometry.
Przytycki earned his Master's (2004) and PhD (2008) in Mathematics from Warsaw University and the Polish Academy of Sciences. He has been a recipient of prestigious awards including the AMS Centennial Fellowship (2019–2020) and the E. H. Moore Research Article Prize (2021). His work has been supported by grants from NSERC, FRQNT, and the National Science Centre of Poland.
His research interests span geometric group theory (e.g., CAT(0) spaces, Coxeter groups), low-dimensional topology (e.g., 3-manifolds, mapping class groups), and combinatorial geometry (e.g., cubulation, arc complexes). He has authored over 40 papers and supervised 19 students to date. Przytycki has organized major conferences such as the Young Geometric Group Theory meetings and co-organized workshops at Oberwolfach and the Simons Semester in Warsaw.
Teaching highlights include courses on geometric group theory, 3-manifolds, and algebraic topology at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His outreach efforts include workshops for the Polish Children's Fund and presentations at public science events.
