Professor Piotr Jasiński is a distinguished academic at Gdańsk University of Technology, serving as both Professor and Head of the Department of Functional Materials Engineering within the Faculty of Electronics Telecommunications and Informatics. With over two decades of experience in materials science and electroceramics, he has established himself as a leading researcher in solid oxide cell technologies.
His academic journey includes:
- Professor (prof. dr hab. inż.) - awarded February 5, 2019
- Habilitation (dr hab. inż.) - awarded April 28, 2009
- PhD (dr inż.) - awarded November 28, 2000
Professor Jasiński's research focuses on advanced materials for energy applications, particularly in the field of solid state ionics and electroceramics. His work bridges electronics and biomedical engineering, with special emphasis on developing innovative protective coatings for solid oxide cells that eliminate reliance on critical raw materials. His research group has made significant contributions to understanding chromium migration phenomena and developing alternative materials that maintain high electrical conductivity while improving cell longevity.
His scientific output includes nearly 300 publications, with recent work focusing on copper-based spinel coatings, hybrid protective systems, and novel approaches to solid oxide cell technology. His publications demonstrate a consistent trajectory of advancing the field from fundamental materials characterization to large-scale cell performance evaluation.
Professor Jasiński has received significant research funding through multiple competitive grants:
- OPUS grant "Alternative to alloying: advanced protective coatings for low-cost alloys for solid oxide cell stack technology" (2024-2027)
- Polsko-Tajwański Program grant "PolyCat-SOFC: Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Using Non-Recyclable Plastic Waste as Fuel" (2023-2025)
- OPUS grant "SOECIZOTOPOLOG: A new tool for studying the coelectrolysis process in Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells" (2022-2025)
- Multiple previous OPUS, HARMONIA, and international collaborative projects dating back to 2013
As Head of Department, Professor Jasiński leads a vibrant research team focused on functional materials for energy applications. His laboratory has established capabilities in materials synthesis, electrophoretic deposition, high-temperature characterization, and electrochemical testing of solid oxide cells. The team maintains strong international collaborations with research institutions across Europe and Asia, particularly through the Polsko-Tajwański research program with Taiwan.
